The Certified Professional Home Builder program was created in 1998 by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, built by builders for the purpose of connecting homebuyers with professionals who have committed to a higher standard of practice. It is a residential certification that goes beyond what standard licensing law requires, and it is not automatic. Builders must apply, qualify, and maintain the designation year after year.

Demonstrate at least three years of experience in residential construction.
Carry a minimum of $500,000 in general liability and builder's risk insurance.
Agree to comply with the National Association of Home Builders Code of Ethics.
Use an approved warranty and warranty procedures.
Offer binding arbitration to homeowners for dispute resolution.
Renew membership and certification annually to remain in good standing.
